Reviving the Hammered Metalcraft of India
Kansaara is dedicated to preserving the traditional art of forging and hand-beating brass, copper, and bronze kitchenware. Our mission is to integrate ancient Ayurvedic wisdom into modern lifestyles, while supporting standard artisan communities.
The Craft Legacy
Handcrafted by the Kansaara Smiths
For centuries, the Kansaaras—traditional copper and bronze smiths of Northern India—have passed down the science of alloy casting and hammer-beating. Hammering is not merely decorative; it compresses the metal molecules, making the vessel incredibly dense, durable, and highly conductive.
In 2017, we noticed a sharp decline in this ancient trade due to cheap, chemically-coated aluminum and non-stick cookware. Kansaara was born to build an ethical supply chain that brings these healthy metals back to modern kitchens while providing master craftsmen with sustainable livelihoods.
Milestones in Craft Preservation
Founding of Kansaara Collective
A small collective of 5 traditional artisan families in Haryana partnered with designers to start prototyping modern kitchenware designs using ancient forging techniques.
UNESCO Recognition
Our workshop methods were highlighted and celebrated as part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage preservation list for traditional metalcraft in India.
Eco-Friendly Melting Setup
We designed and deployed smoke-free induction furnaces in our Panchkula workshops, drastically improving air quality and workspace safety for our metal craftsmen.
D2C Growth & Shark Tank India
Showcasing our ethical craft model on national television, we raised support to establish artisan retail nodes across Delhi NCR and scale our digital store.
50+ Families Supported
Today, Kansaara stands as a premier design-led heritage brand. We connect 50+ master craftsmen directly with conscious customers worldwide, ensuring the fire of the forge stays lit.
How to Care for Your Vessels
Brass & Copper Care
Pure copper and brass naturally oxidize over time, developing a beautiful dark green-brown patina. This is a sign of standard metal purity.
- Wash with warm water and mild dish soap using a soft sponge.
- To restore the original gold shine, scrub with a mixture of tamarind, lemon, and salt.
- Avoid using abrasive metal wire scrubbers as they scratch the surface.
- Dry immediately with a clean cotton towel to prevent water spots.
Tin-Lining (Kalai) & Kansa Care
Brass cookware is lined with tin (Kalai) to prevent reacting with sour ingredients. Kansa is naturally non-reactive and requires no lining.
- Do not scrape the tin lining. Use wooden or silicone spatulas during cooking.
- Do not leave empty tin-lined vessels on high flames.
- Get your brass vessels re-tinned (Kalai) once every 8-12 months.
- Kansa can be cleaned normally. Do not microwave or clean in a dishwasher.
